Season starts on April 1, 2022! We look forward to welcoming you to the primeval world!

Warm welcome!

Jurrasic age large saurus and crocodiles, a variety of fish, delicate sea lilies and well preserved ammonites and belemnites wait for you at our 'Urweltmuseum Bodman'.

Immerse yourself in the world of fossils as unique witnesses of evolution and get an insight into the secrets of prehistoric times accompanied by the sound of the sea.

We look forward to your visit!

Dear Bodensee lovers, we are so happy to make a few waves to introduce you to our incredibly beautiful new fossil museum!

Travel back with us into Jurassic time and emerge with our ancient exhibits, while listening to the sound of the ocean.

Our exquisite palaeontological exhibition is located in the beautifully renovated Schlosstorkel of the Count of Bodman.  The building is up to today the home of a 17th century giant oaktree-press. It is hard to believe that 5000 kg of grapes could be pressed here in one go and produce 3750 l of grape juice.

Our natural history exhibition specializes in fossilised water saurus and aquatic creatures that lived 180 million years ago in an ocean that covered the landmass of current Southern Germany. At our mother house in Holzmaden, at the foot of the Swabian Alb, we can discover our exhibits still today and there they are also carefully prepared.

We have designed the exhibition to be both scientifically and paleontologically of highest quality (some of our exhibits are the basis for publications in scientific magazines, such as 'nature') as well as entertaining, e.g. a sand bed with a dinosaur skeleton for children to dig out, a cinema room with documentary films, displays that show the glaciation of Lake Constance during the Ice Age up to 40,000 years from now, a world clock that shows the formation of the continental drift and films about fossilisation, our finding of the fossils and their preparation among other.

Our large fossil finds are displayed up close and directly tangible - large crocodiles, ichthyosaurs (the dolphins of prehistoric times), sea lilies, fish, ammonites, and even pterosaurs.

If you would like a guided tour to visit the museum, simply book in advance.

Our museum is located directly on the ‘BodenseePur’ route at the end of the Bodman lake promenade in the direction of the Castle of Duke Bodman and Marienschlucht (7 min walk from 'Seeum' and 'Landungsstelle' where the ships dock). S

o a visit can be perfectly combined with a ship voyage or a canoe tour on the lake, a hike or a bike trip up to the wild and forested 'Bodanrück'. Those who like it simple can take the bus (every 30 minutes) from the parking lot at the entrance of the village (exit 'Metzgerbuckel').

If you have any questions, please get in touch. We also love to hear your thoughts and feedback and are looking forward to seeing your own pictures (photography allowed throughout the museum), which you are welcome to post online. If you have any questions, please get in touch. We are happy to receive suggestions and feedback and of course your own photos and reviews on social media platforms. Photography is definitely permitted in the museum and you will be amazed how alive and beautiful you can shine next to a saurus from prehistoric times!

We hope to see you soon!
